Natural henna paste dyes the skin orange, burgundy, and brown; never black.  "Black Henna" is not natural and is toxic. It contains a substance known as PPD, Para-phenylendiamine, and can cause severe blistering and scarring.

Venice Henna uses only pure, fresh, natural henna powder for our paste.

Why do some designs pictured look black and some look red/brown?
We use 100% natural henna powder which looks greenish/black when made into a paste. Most designs shown on look black because the pictures were taken with the HENNA PASTE STILL ON. We do NOT use ‘black henna".

What is Henna?
Henna (lawsonia inermis) is a plant grown in countries with a hot climate including India, Pakistan, Yemen, Morocco, Egypt, etc. The leaves of the henna plant are crushed and milled into a fine powder, then mixed by VeniceHenna with natural ingredients to make a henna paste. The henna paste is then used to create beautiful designs that stain the skin

What is Mehndi?

Often times "henna" and "mehndi" are used interchangeably. In actuality, henna is the plant (as described above) and mehndi is the art of applying the design

Is henna safe?

Yes. Henna has been safely used for over 5000 years. We make fresh batches of henna paste for each occasion, and use 100% pure natural henna and pure lavender oil

How long does henna take to dry?
Drying time will vary based on the climate. Typically your henna paste will be dry within 20 minutes if you’re outside during the day, and about 45 minutes if you’re inside

How long does the henna stain last?
Our henna can last up to two weeks if cared for properly (see care instructions here)

Which part of the body does henna stain the best?
Natural henna works best on hands, wrists, arms, legs, ankles, and feet. Henna stains are the darkest on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet (because the skin is thicker). Designs can be created on any part of the body, but the stain will not be as dark as on the hands and feet

What areas does Venice Henna serve?
Local rates are applied for Los Angeles County, Orange County, the San Fernando Valley, and San Diego County. We serve all areas of southern and central California, travel fees may apply

What does Venice Henna need at the booking appointments?
Not much! Just a small table, two chairs, and good lighting. More elaborate set ups can be discussed during the booking process

How much does it cost to get a henna mehndi?
Henna application is a work of art so there is no set price for it. Pricing depends on the size and intricacy of the design, which ultimately boils down to how much time it takes. A simple design starts at $10 and can go up to $300 for elaborate bridal henna. For accurate pricing, please CONTACT US

How much does it cost to book an event?
Rates are calculated depending on the type and size of the design, type and size of the event, and the number of people involved. Typically, individual rates are applied to single persons and small groups (less than 10). Larger events and parties are charged by the hour. For accurate pricing, please CONTACT US
